San Jose: As NHL training camp quickly approaches, multiple close sources in the Sharks organization have confirmed that Celebrini is “all but certain” to become the next captain of the franchise.
The 20-year-old is coming off a historic season with 115 points and helped lead the Sharks to drastic improvements in the standings. Celebrini made his debut for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano Cortina and starred on the first line alongside NHL superstars Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon.
Celebrini capped off his amazing year by signing a five-year, $94 million extension with the Sharks. This deal makes him the highest-paid player in NHL history. Celebrini will make a record $18.8 million AAV in 2027-28 when the new deal starts.
Celebrini will become the 11th captain in franchise history and the first Sharks captain since Logan Couture in 2023-24.

NHL training camp opens September 17th and the preseason officially kicks off on Sunday September 20th against the Anaheim Ducks. The first home preseason game at SAP Center against the Vegas Golden Knights is on Tuesday September 22nd at 7PM.
