The Golden State Warriors signed free agents Brandon Williams and Georges Niang to one-year deals, rounding out the roster on Tuesday.
The Warriors signed guard Brandon Williams to a one-year, $2.2 million dollar deal. Later in the afternoon, the Warriors signed forward Georges Niang to a $3.9 million dollar deal, which completes the roster.
Williams is the first outside free agent signing the front office has made this summer. It has been a rather quiet summer that has consisted of retaining and resigning pieces from last year. Williams provides much-needed bench scoring and speed for a bench unit that lacked it last year.
Williams averaged 13.0 points per game for the Dallas Mavericks last year. The Williams signing filled the 14th spot on the roster.
Georges Niang signed a few hours later per his agents to fill the 15th and final spot on the roster. Niang sat out the entirety of last season after fracturing his left foot last September. But, before that he’d shown that he was a reliable option off the bench and a fantastic floor spacer who has shot 40 percent from three in his career. With Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody out to start the season, Niang will provide some much needed shooting on the wing.
Niang will fill out the frontcourt depth behind veterans Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and Yaxel Lendeborg. The Warriors filled out their roster nicely, adding two veteran pieces to their reserve units.
The next item of business to tend to for the front office is Stephen Curry. The superstar becomes extension eligible on Saturday, and it is highly expected for the two sides to agree on a deal that will make Curry a Warrior for the rest of his career.
The updated Warriors roster after these signings looks like this:
Curry, Melton, Lendeborg, Green, Porzingis, Williams, Podziemski, Richard, Santos Horford, Payton II, Bassey, Niang *Jimmy Butler (will miss start of season) *Moses Moody (will miss start of season).
