Macklin Celebrini injury status still unknown, San Jose Sharks have struggled mightily without him

An update on Macklin Celebrini’s injury status and what the lineup looks like without him.

ST. LOUIS: Macklin Celebrini’s availability for Thursday night’s game in St. Louis against the Blues is still up in the air.

Celebrini, who exited pregame warmups on Monday night and was a late scratch with a lower body injury, missed practice on Tuesday in Dallas.

Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky told San Jose Hockey Now that Celebrini has dealt with the injury since before Monday’s game and is now considered day-to-day. “It didn’t happen in warm-ups,” head coach Ryan Warsofsky said on Tuesday. “This has been something we’ve been trying to manage here a little bit.”

“I didn’t mind our first 10 minutes,” Warsofsky said after the loss. “I thought we did some good things, and then it kind of went south from there.”

With Celebrini’s absence, the lines were shuffled a bit. Most notably, Will Smith was moved into Celebrini’s spot as the top-line center, with Mason Marchment and Igor Chernyshov playing on the wings.

Kiefer Sherwood moved up from the fourth line to the second line, playing right wing with center Alexander Wennberg and left wing Ivar Stenberg. Collin Graf was moved from the second line to the third, replacing Chernyshov and joining Michael Misa and Tyler Toffoli.

The bad news is the Sharks record without Celebrini. The last time Celebrini missed a Sharks game was on Nov. 2, 2024, when he was still recovering from another injury.

That year, Celebrini missed 12 games, the Sharks record in those 12 games was not great: 3-8-1. The Sharks finished with the NHL’s worst record that year at 20-50-12.
