Hockey is back. The sharks have set their roster ahead of opening night on Thursday against the Florida Panthers.
SAN JOSE: The San Jose Sharks announced their opening night roster on Monday.
The Sharks, who had to complete their final 23-man roster by Monday afternoon, placed forward Adam Gaudette on injured reserve. Gaudette was injured earlier in training camp. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky says he is day-to-day with an upper body injury.
But the biggest news of all is that the 2026 #2 overall pick, Ivar Stenberg, made the big club. The Sharks seem to trust the young player after a solid training camp and preseason.
The Sharks are heading into the new season with 14 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goalies.
Forwards:
Macklin Celebrini, Igor Chernyshov, Ty Dellandrea, Barclay Goodrow, Collin Graf, Brett Leason, Mason Marchment, Michael Misa, Zack Ostapchuk, Kiefer Sherwood, Will Smith, Ivar Stenberg, Tyler Toffoli, Alex Wennberg
Defensemen:
Nolan Allan, Luca Cagnoni, Sam Dickinson, Michael Kesselring, Darnell Nurse, Dmitry Orlov, Jacob Trouba
Goalies:
Yaroslav Askarov, Alex Nedeljkovic
Injured Reserve:
Adam Gaudette, Alex Barre-Boulet, Logan Couture
To slide into Gaudette’s place is NHL veteran winger Brett Leason. Leason has played in 226 career NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals.

Leason signed a one-year deal with the Sharks in July. “What really surprised me is the maturity of his game,” Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said of Leason. “Obviously he’s big, he’s long, gets a stick on a lot of pucks, knows his identity; that’s a big thing. He’s been really consistent, so he’s earned the right to be here.”
Defensemen Nolan Allan and Luca Cagoni who played with the Sharks AHL Affiliate Barracuda last year could also play prominent roles this year.
Allan ran the power play in training camp and started the last preseason game alongside Trouba in a 4-2 win over the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
Allan had 18 minutes of ice time, including a team leading 5:08 on the penalty kill. He also had 5 blocked shots.
“I thought he was good,” Trouba said. “He moves the puck well, doesn’t really ever get himself into trouble, which I think is a bigger skill than people give credit for. Makes simple plays, was solid all game.
“Had a really good camp from the start until today. He’s played good hockey, and he’s a fun guy to play with.”
Now let’s get into some line projections. This is how the Sharks will likely line up on opening night, based on what we’ve seen in training camp.
Marchment Celebrini Smith
Chernyshov Misa Toffoli
Stenberg Wennberg Graf
Goodrow Ostapchuk Sherwood
Nurse Kesselring
Dickinson Trouba
Orlov Cagnoni
Askarov

The Sharks start the season with a two-game home stand against the Florida Panthers on Thursday and the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. They then head out on the road for a two-game road trip with stops in St. Louis and Dallas next week.
Opening night is Thursday at SAP Center in San Jose against the Florida Panthers. Puck drop is at 7 PM PST.
