SAN JOSE: The San Jose Sharks named Macklin Celebrini as the 11th captain in franchise history on Friday.
Here is Joe Thornton presenting Macklin Celebrini with the “C”
There is set to be a press conference on Friday afternoon at 12:30 PM PST with general manager Mike Grier, head coach Ryan Warsofsky, and Celebrini.
Celebrini, who turned 20 in June, will be the youngest captain in team history and the youngest captain in the NHL.
Celebrini got some experience wearing the “C” in the summer for Team Canada at the IIHF World Championship. That team featured plenty of NHL veterans and his idol Sidney Crosby, who wanted Celebrini to wear the “C” during the entirety of the tournament.
The last Shark to serve as captain was Logan Couture from 2019-20 to 2024-25.
In July, the Sharks made Celebrini the highest-paid player in team history, signing him to a five-year, $94 million contract extension, keeping him in San Jose until the 2031-2032 season.
