The Lions filled their final spot on the 53-man roster by signing a very familiar face.
The Detroit Lions have finally filled their final spot on the 53-man roster. The Lions signed wide receiver Tom Kennedy from the practice squad to the active roster. To fill the vacant spot on the practice squad left by Kennedy, the Lions signed defensive back Natrone Brooks.
Kennedy’s return to the roster this week was expected, as the Lions hinted at earlier in the week signing him for returning kicks. Earlier today, special teams coordinator Dave Fipp confirmed that Kennedy would be the starting punt returner and be in the mix for returning kickoffs.
Kennedy has been on and off the Lions roster for the past seven seasons. Detroit raves about his versatility and work ethic.
Natrone Brooks has been with the Atlanta Falcons for the past four seasons. He has appeared in 26 games and has 1 start. Brooks was cut by Atlanta and cleared waivers this past week.
Brooks has recently made the position change to safety from cornerback, so perhaps the Lions see him as added depth at the safety position until Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch return.
