Detroit Lions and Aidan Hutchinson Agree to 4-Year Contract Extension

Aidan Hutchinson will be a Lion for the foreseeable future.

The Lions and Hutchinson agreed to a 4-year, 180 million dollar contract extension on Wednesday.

Per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Hutchinson is now signed through 2030, which indicates that this four-year extension has been added onto Hutch’s fifth-year option in 2026.

The kid from Michigan was drafted 2nd overall in the 2022 Draft and has been one of the premier players at his position since coming into the league. Hutchinson tallied a total of 21 sacks in his first two seasons, including helping lead the Lions to their first division title and playoff win since 1991 and an NFC Championship appearance.

After a tragic end to what was the start of a stellar campaign for Hutch last year, it was only a matter of when the Lions would lock him up to his extension. Since coming back from his injury, Hutchinson has been stellar for the Lions defense, racking up six sacks through seven games thus far in 2025.

The Lions continue to lock up their guys. Hutch now joins the club.

Below are Lions drafted by Brad Holmes signed to contract extensions:

  • Penei Sewell: four years, $112 million
  • Alim McNeill: four years, $97 million
  • Amon-Ra St. Brown: four years, 120 million
  • Derrick Barnes: three years, $24 million
  • Kerby Joseph: four years, $84.1 million
  • Jameson Williams: three years, $83 million

(Jared Goff was also signed to a major extension).
