We have arrived. The offseason is inching towards a close and now it is time for the annual highly optimistic (sometimes delusional) Detroit Lions season predictions.
(Primetime games are bolded, nationally-televised games are in italics)
Week 1 — Sunday, Sept. 7 — at Packers — 4:25 p.m ET (CBS)
On the road at Lambeau against a division rival on national television. This is now the second straight year the Lions are opening the year on national tv. Something that Lions fans are still getting used to.
But, this is what Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes have built. A relentless, gritty, and unbreakable bunch who have become the media darlings of the NFL. As Joe Buck said earlier this offseason, “All of a sudden, every network wants the Lions, which is to their credit,” Joe is quite right, The Lions were given five primetime games and twelve, I repeat TWELVE nationally televised games.
Anyways enough yapping, time to get down to business. The Lions will continue to dominate in Lambeau like the past three years. Lions Win 30-22. 1-0 to start the year.
Week 2 — Sunday, Sept. 14 — vs. Bears — 1 p.m. ET (FOX)
Home opener. Welcoming Ben Johnson back to Ford Field. But, I don’t think it will be relatively close. Lions win big. Fuck the Bears. Lions Win 31-16. 2-0.
Week 3 — Monday, Sept. 22 — at Ravens — 8:15 p.m. ET (ESPN/ABC)
Lamar Jackson is 24-2 against NFC teams. I do think this game will be closer than the previous meeting back in 2023 when the Ravens steamrolled the Lions 38-7. But, Lamar continues his impressive play against NFC Teams. The Lions drop their first game of the season in a close one. Ravens Win 27-23. 2-1.
Week 4 — Sunday, Sept. 28 — vs. Browns — 1 p.m ET (FOX)
I have a feeling this game will be prettttttyyyy similar to last year against the Jags where the Lions won 52-6. Easy Lions win 45-6. 3-1 through four weeks.
Week 5 — Sunday, Oct. 5 — at Bengals — 4:25 p.m ET (FOX)
This is a game on the schedule that I think may be the high scoring game of the year. Two high powered offenses going at it in early October (which means really nice weather for Jared Goff to sling it). I do think the Lions get a key road win early in the season in Cincinnati. Look to Jake Bates for a game winner. Lions win 35-31.
Week 6 — Sunday, Oct. 12 — at Chiefs — 8:25 p.m. ET (NBC)
Congratulations to Travis and Taylor but MCDC always has the guys locked in on Sunday Night Football. The Lions get it done at Arrowhead again. Lions win. 27-23.
Week 7 — Monday, Oct. 20 — vs. Buccaneers — 7 p.m. ET (ESPN/ABC)
This one may be a bit of a shootout but too much talent on offense for the Lions gives them the advantage and another win heading into the week eight bye week. 6-1 at the bye is not too shabby for a team coming off a 15-2 season. Lions win. 34-24
Week 8 – BYE WEEK
Week 9 — Sunday, Nov. 2 — vs. Vikings — 1 p.m ET (FOX)
Our first look at JJ McCarthy against the Lions. Expect two Kerby Joseph interceptions. Lions by double digits. Lions win. 24-9
Week 10 — Sunday, Nov. 9 — at Commanders — 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX)
Revenge for last year’s divisional round loss. Although, my heart tells me the Lions, I think Jayden Daniels will be better and the Lions will still struggle to stop that dangerous offense. I do think it is close and will be a one possession game. But, Lions drop their 2nd one of the season in Landover. Lions lose. 28-24
Week 11 — Sunday, Nov. 16 — at Eagles — 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC)
Sunday night against the defending Super Bowl Champs. Sounds right up Dan Campbell’s alley. A statement win on a brisk, cold November night in Philly. Lions win. 31-26
Week 12 — Sunday, Nov. 23 — vs. Giants — 1 p.m. ET (FOX)
Easy win. Enough said. Lions win. 38-6
Week 13 — Thursday, Nov. 27 — vs. Packers — 1 p.m. ET (FOX) — Thanksgiving
We will not be getting back to back Thanksgiving day wins sadly. That will never happen. It’s more likely I end up in a hot tub doing bong rips with Don Henley and Keith Richards than for the Lions to win on Thanksgiving two straight years in a row. I think Green Bay will be with the Lions step for step all year long, so a season series split is highly likely. Lions lose. 27-22
Week 14 — Thursday, Dec. 4 — vs. Cowboys — 8:15 p.m. ET (Prime)
The Lions are finally playing the Cowboys in Detroit!! Wow. What a time to be alive. Lions get a big bounce back win. Lions win 30-17
Week 15 — Sunday, Dec. 14 — at Rams — 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX)
It is really hard to beat a team three straight times. The Rams have been waiting and thinking about the Lions for a while and I think this will be a close one but Matthew edges out JAred in an offensive duel. Lions lose. 38-35
Week 16 — Sunday, Dec. 21 — vs. Steelers— 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS)
Aaron Rodgers back in Detroit but in a STEELERS UNIFORM?!? Crazy. Lions by 20. Lions win 35-15
Week 17 — Thursday, Dec. 25 — at Vikings — 4:30 p.m. ET (Netflix)
We live in a society now where the NFL wants the Detroit Lions on national television as much as possible. So that means Lions football on Christmas too! Lions win. 27-23
Week 18 — TBD — at Bears
Dan Campbell doesn’t rest his guys. Lions win. 31-24
The Detroit Lions finish with a 13-4 record, good enough for a third straight NFC North title and the two seed in the NFC playoffs.
