It is here. The 2024 Detroit Lions schedule is out and its time to take a look at some of the opponents this season. I came away with three takeaways after looking at the schedule today.
- WEEK 5 BYE WEEK IS GROSS
I am not a fan of the bye week in week 5 at all. But, it is what it is. Last year, the Lions had the perfect bye week, right in the middle of the year. I have full confidence in Dan Campbell that the team will be ready each and every week though. With that being said looking at the first four games, there is no reason the Lions shouldn’t go 3-1 or 4-0.
- Lions Have Five Primetime Games and Nine Nationally Televised Games
The Brand New Lions are built for the bright lights and they will be under the lights early and often. The Lions kick off the season at home on Sunday Night Football in a rematch from the Wild Card Round against Matthew Stafford and the Rams. Expect the Jared Goff chants to be loud once again. My bold prediction, the Lions win by double digits and announce to the league that last year was no fluke. They are here to take over. In Week 4, the Lions host the Seahawks on Monday Night Football in what I expect to be the debut for the Lions new alternate black uniforms. Their next primetime game is Week 10, in a matchup between two of the best young teams in the league down in Houston. The Texans and Lions should be a Sunday night game a lot have circled on their calendar.
Back to back Thursday games against two NFC North foes. On Thanksgiving, the Lions host the Bears on CBS and a week later on Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime, the Lions host the Packers. Finally, the last primetime game and the one I am looking forward to the most, Week 17 in Santa Clara, a NFC Championship Game rematch. This game could have a lot of playoff implications as these are the two best teams in the NFC and could be battling for who gets the one seed and home field advantage in the playoffs.
- Four of Last Six Games are Divisional Games
I found this interesting. Who knows how the NFC North race will play out this year but we saw this last year as the Lions played the Vikings in week 16 and 18. They have to do the same this year as they play the Bears in week 13 and 16. I think the Lions should have the division wrapped up by week 16 but we will see. What I do like is that the Lions only have to play in one cold weather game and that is in week 16 in Chicago, which is good for the offense as they struggled mightily last year in Chicago in December.
